Slade was one of those bands that, although massively popular everywhere else in the world, failed to crack the U.S. in the 1970s. They had traversed the late 60s as a minor pop act with psychedelic intentions as Ambrose Slade, a rock band with an image crisis (tailored to the prevailing Suedehead/Skinhead fashion in 1970) and glam rock superstars – both as Slade. After years of hard work, they had finally arrived to become an 'overnight sensation' and were beginning to enjoy the fruits of their labours as hit after hit was relentlessly rolled out. Simply put, Slade ruled the world on vinyl, and on stage!
Performed before an intimate live London audience and hosted by popular DJ Mike Harding, this now historic performance from the Paris Theatre was broadcast on BBC Radio One's 'In Concert' on 30th September 1972. The set concentrates on Slade Alive! with some rocking rollers such as Good Golly Miss Molly and Janis Joplin's Move Over - the latter being a taste of things to come for the forthcoming Slayed? album.
Timeline revisits this classic performance with a fully restored and professionally remastered original broadcast. Presented with background notes and photos.
Noddy Holder - lead vocals, rhythm guitar; Jim Lea - bass, violin, backing vocals; Dave Hill - lead guitar, backing vocals; Don Powell - drums.
