Leadfinger from Australia are a genuine two guitar rock'n'roll band; their influences stretching back through the 70's & 80's rock and punk eras, through the classic Stones and Dylan records of the 60's, the blues and beyond. Songwriter/guitarist Stewart Cunningham was slinging his guitar around the 1990's Sydney underground in rock bands like Brother Brick, The Yes Men & Asteroid B-612. Cunningham formed Leadfinger in 2006 and it morphed into a twin guitar rock n' roll band in 2008 with a 4-piece line. After 5 albums, they embarked on their first tour of Europe in October 2017. The story of Silver & Black began not long after that, when the band's singer/songwriter, Stewart Cunningham, fell ill and was shockingly diagnosed with lung cancer. Following almost 2 years of treatment, things slowly fell into place in the isolation of the rehearsal room, and throughout Covid lockdowns the band managed to write and record the new album.
The release of Silver & Black marks the final step in the band's triumph over serious adversity. The album's killer riffs and songs are linked via Cunningham's often reflective lyric themes, exploring real life challenges & experiences that many will relate to. The weaving, melodic guitar lines of Cunningham and Michael Boyle are complemented by inventive harmony vocals that take the album beyond the standard rock fare. Silver & Black is a musical testament to determination and to the resilience of Leadfinger and the band's leader, Stewart Cunningham. It is fitting that it is the band's strongest and most accomplished album to date.
