'In the dying embers of the nineties, one man was instrumental in re-floating one of the wildest rock ‘n’ roll bands of all time, long after they had passed into history after their heyday in the late ‘70’s and early ‘80’s.
Not an original member, but rather a loyal fan, Tony ‘Lloyd’ Van Frater helped breathe life into reconstituted punk icons the Cockney Rejects after a 15-year
hiatus and helped turn them into a global brand, playing sold out shows to rabid audiences around the world. Sadly, Tony died unexpectedly in 2015.
Devastated, the remaining members had to come to terms with the awful loss
and the ensuing dilemma: do they/can they, carry on? And how? A gentle and agonisingly funny man, Tony was seemingly at odds with the rest of the band’s hardnosed image.
Told through the eyes of the band’s founding member and guitarist, Mick Geggus, Life after Lloyd - A Rock ‘n’ Roll Tale begins in 1999 and covers in bittersweet fashion the struggles, passion and relentless touring which put the band at the top of their game. It also describes some of the most achingly funny moments of a band on tour since Spinal tap. Interwoven with this narrative is the flipside of the coin: the heartbreak in coming to terms with Tony’s untimely death and the turmoil and struggle, fallouts and soul-searching that led to the band deciding to carry on in his memory, enlisting a familiar figure from their past to do so. And despite the seemingly insurmountable odds stacked against them, they did it. And then some.
This is Life After Lloyd - A Rock ‘n’ Roll Tale.
